TD Bank Financial Group Grant for Health Sciences Interdisciplinary Research Fund Studentships

Award Description
The TD Bank Financial Group in agreement with the University of Alberta has established an endowment fund to be administered by the Health Sciences Council, University of Alberta, under the direction of the Vice Provost. The fund will provide one $10,000 studentship for 2012-2013 to support a student or trainee at the masters, doctoral or fellowship level. The studentship will be awarded to a student who has an active role with an interdisciplinary (cross-faculty or multiple health/allied health disciplines) health research team, who will be taking part in a health research project and who describes or demonstrates his/her interest and potential to excel in interdisciplinary health research.
This award will be administered through the Health Sciences Council, Interdisciplinary Health Research Academy (See Appendix 1 for a brief description), according to University of Alberta policies on student awards. The recipient(s) will be chosen based on the recommendation of a review/selection committee appointed by the Director of Interdisciplinary Health Research Academy (IHRA), Health Sciences Council.
Eligibility of Candidates
Those candidates who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply:
- Registered full-time in graduate or fellowship program in one of the eighteen Faculties/ Schools/ Programs at the University of Alberta or others at either Augustana Campus and Faculté St. Jean.
- A strong academic record
- Interest in exploring opportunities to increase interdisciplinary or team-based scholarship in health research and/or collaborative practice in the health care system
- Has a Supervisor who holds an academic appointment with a Faculty/School or program at the University of Alberta, Augustana Campus or Faculte St. Jean, and possesses a record of productive health-oriented research including peer reviewed grants, publications and conference presentations/abstracts
- Involvement in a health research project with an interdisciplinary focus and interdisciplinary team (i.e. cross-faculty or two or more health disciplines)

Applications must be submitted on the attached fill-in Studentship application form using the font as set in the form, and must be signed and dated appropriately by required signees. RSO signatures are not required for this studentship.
The following requested attachments should be included:
- candidate’s up-to-date official or unofficial past and current transcripts;
- candidate’s abbreviated CV (see Application, Section 2B);
- supervisor’s abbreviated CV (See Application, Section 4A); and
- letter of reference (See Application, Section 6 – letter must be sealed in an envelope and signed across the seal by the referee).
